Food, drinks, and future tech at #FuturePub

#FuturePub is landing in Raleigh! This fun, informal scholarly publishing, research and scientific technology event will be held on Thursday, April 5 from 6-9 p.m. in the Duke Energy Hall in the Hunt Library.

You’ll see six lightning talks from innovators presenting new technology ideas. Then, you can give feedback to, and network with, the presenters—all with free food and drink!

#FuturePub talks and speakers include:

  • “STEMbrite: Bringing online learning to life with engaging lightboard video,” Chris Carson, STEMbrite co-founder and CEO
  • “Dimensions: Next-generation discovery tool for researchers and institutions,” Heidi Becker, Digital Solutions Specialist from Digital Science
  • “Research Square: Research communication services,” Lindsay Miller, Strategic Partnerships Manager at American Journal Experts
  • “Code Ocean: Cloud-based computational reproducibility,” April Clyburne-Sherin is an epidemiologist, methodologist, and expert in open science
  • “Jupyter: Jupyter Notebooks for research and education in the computational sciences,” Vaclav (Vashek) Petras is a researcher focusing on point clouds, geospatial simulations, and modeling
  • “Thunken: CobaltMetrics: Altmetrics for All,” Luc Boruta, Thunken CEO

This is the first #FuturePub to be held in Raleigh. The first #FuturePub was held in London in 2014 and is now described as “a staple of the London science tech/publishing scene.”
